Ice Cream Flavorrail, Sliding Lids or Flip Lids, as shown by Kelley Smith President, C Nelson Mfg Co

C Nelson Mfg., Co builds 2 styles of flavorrails.

Flavorrails were used years ago for making sundaes, milk shakes, and other soda fountain concoctions.  Today because of the growth of smoothies and blizzard type mix-in blended products, the C. Nelson cabinet is now used as, a prep-cabinet, a freezer work-station.  A freezer-scoop/work-station for all your frozen/chilled supplies to make your great tasting smoothies, cappuccino’s, milk shakes, and blizzards.

The BDF8 is the more traditional flip lid flavor rail which has the heavier duty insulated flip lids along with a well-insulated jar rail.  Remember all rails are designed to only hold non-food/spoil-able products (NOT dressings, etc).  Chocolate, caramel, peanut butter and other toppings hold just fine.

The sliding lid new style flavorrail, BD-X-JR, is designed for those individual and chain shops that need to have a clean work-area/counter space for making smoothies, shakes, and blizzards, and other blended type treats.  The sliding lids allow easy access to your ice cream products in the freezer; while adding blend-in toppings, and, then mixing each order, in the same floor space.  Mixers and Blenders can be easily installed on the back shelf of the BD-X-JR cabinet.  Hand sinks, 3 hole sinks, and dipper-wells can be added to either side of the cabinet for your sanitation needs.

In the below video Kelley Smith, President, C. Nelson Mfg., Company, expands on the differences between the sliding lid freezer vs. the flip lip freezer.  He also points out the benefits and features of the C. Nelson cabinet vs. his competition.  You can tell Kelley is proud of what his  team builds in Oak Harbor, Ohio, USA.

Gelato and Ice Cream in the same dipping case, New by C. Nelson Mfg.

Ever since when the Italians introduced Gelato to the US market it has been a hit in most major cities across the USA.  Gelato has not hit the rural market as well. Finally from C. Nelson there is a ice cream dipping cabinet that will serve up both types of cool creamy treats in one dipping cabinet.  This split style cabinet is great for those operators who want to introduce Gelato to their customers but do not want to invest in a full blown Gelato cabinet.  They are very costly and hard to work with.

C. Nelson introduces the split Gelato & Ice Cream dipping cabinet, 8dip-hv serving Gelato & Ice Cream.  The 8dip-hv is setup to display 6, 4-liter pans, and 4 3-gallon ice cream tubs.  Now that is a great bargain for an operator who wants to sell both quality gelato and ice creams.

The C. Nelson 8 dip-hv cabinet is easy to operate and maintain and his very simple to keep clean.  The inside of the cabinet is constructed with easy to clean stainless-steel side walls, digital temp control, led lighting, and the always seamed and wielded corners.  The C. Nelson also features a steel frame below the freezer box keeping it structurally solid for years of maintenance free operation.  Call C. Nelson today for a quote.

Great Ice Cream Shops, San Francisco style

….my 8th day traveling the west coast of California for C.Nelson Mfg., Company visiting great ice cream shops new and old.

MCC

Mission City Creamery, Santa Clara, California

Mission City Creamery, across from Santa Clara College in Santa Clara, CA – is a local neighborhood ice cream shop that makes wonderful tasting ice cream.  Mission City Creamery is owned and operated by Chris Leahy a transplanted east coast boy who grew-up near, the Warren family’s Four Seas Homemade Ice Cream shop in Centerville, MA.  Chris told me, tonight, that he always wanted to operate his very own ice cream shop from the days he was a kid – hanging out – at – the Four Seas Ice Cream shop.

Talking about his dream

Talking about his dream

Chris has been experimenting, for about 20 years, developing his own homemade ice cream recipes. Chris then tested those proven recipes out on his family and friends at his annual summer ice cream socials.  Chris was not sure when he would open his own shop but he knew he had recipes – ready – for the day that would come soon.

This past January Chris finally had the chance to open his own shop and has been making ice cream ever since.  Chris his wife and children have enjoyed the Santa Clara community as their home and Chris said “it felt right to open my dream ice cream shop here” in Santa Clara.

One of the cool things Chris did to his ice cream dipping cabinets was; he puts his homemade ice cream into gelato style pans, like what you see at Italian Gelato shops, this keeps his ice cream fresh, allows him to display more flavors, and it just looks cool.

I sampled a few of Chris’s great tasting flavors; Coffee, Honey Lavender, Coffee and Heath, Vanilla, and his most popular, Salted Caramel.  I enjoyed all the flavors but my favorites were the Vanilla and Salted Caramel. All his ice creams start with an Organic ice cream base from Straus Family Creamery and then Chris adds his own special flavors and secret ingredients to make it, his special, ice cream creation.

I ordered a scoop of his Salted Caramel and sat down to listen to Chris tell me how the last 9 months have been a lot of fun.  Chris enjoys it most when the children from the local school come in for their monthly ice cream visit.  The entire class comes and the whole shop is filled with laughter and joy he said to me.

Chris started out with a small Emery Thompson batch freezer and moved up to a 20 quart Emery Thompson soon after he opened.  He could not keep up with the demand he told me.  He wanted to be out front with the customers and not stuck in the back all day making ice cream.

Making ice cream in the clean room

The Ice Cream Production room.
The state of California requires that homemade ice cream shops like Chris’s must have a separate ice cream production room that must be kept clean, he added a window to the room so customers could watch him making ice cream. He didn’t realize how much the children loved watching him make ice cream. They learned how ice cream was made and then they would enjoy the finished ice cream when he was finished.

This is my 8th day in California calling on ice cream shops and other related ice cream & yogurt businesses that service shops like Chris’s. Today I had the chance to visit San Francisco Food Supply of San Jose, CA a supplier of ice cream ingredients SFFS is operated by George Lyons. George is the gentlemen who introduced me to Chris Leahy.  George really has all the fun because George gets to visit with Chris often and sample Chris’s new flavors.

Enjoying his craft

George Lydon, former California Ice Cream Association President

You see George Lyons used to be involved with the famous Bud’s ice cream shop of Noe Valley for many years and operated his own family shop, Lydon’s Ice Cream, voted best of San Jose in 1997.  George’s San Francisco style and skill of making homemade ice cream has helped his customers learn the craft of making quality ice creams.

George Lyons and Chris Leahy have made my 8th day here in California wonderful and I have learned a lot about making ice cream here in San Francisco. Did I tell you Chris also makes his own hot fudge chocolate topping WOW is it good!

MCC logo

If you stop by Chris Leahy’s Mission City Creamery please try the Salted Caramel it’s my favorite and remember what Chris’s wife once said…

….you can’t buy happiness, but you can buy ice cream…

and that’s almost the same thing!

To my new friends George and Chris I thank you both for making this day a great day for enjoying one of my favorites, homemade ice cream.

Thanks to you both…..

….the ice cream cone with sprinkles by Ben & Jerry’s

In today’s world we are hit with a lot of confusing marketing noise, from morning to night, 24X7, and 365 days a year.

This is the ice cream marketer’s perfect picture.

It screams out to the customer “we sell ice cream” and we even add sprinkles too.

Ben & Jerry’s understands how to market to their loyal fan base, by introducing fun flavors, supported by team members who are full of passion about their loyal customers.

@Ben&Jerry’s understands very clearly what their business is all about.

Selling ice cream or novelties is fun regardless where you are selling it; a little shop down the street or on the beach with a vending cart and umbrella.

But come on tell me you wouldn’t love to sell your product from such an American Icon?  You know you would.  I have designed and built mobile ice cream carts and

trailers for years but this, screams, look at me I sell good stuff, Airstream tells the world you are a quality product, the trailer gets their attention and

your product does the rest $$ .  No matter how good your product is you cannot sell it if you do not get your customer’s attention.

This trailer is a basic 22 foot trailer with an 18 foot aluminum shell.  This is just a basic shell and your equipment can be

designed to fit this Airstream Trailer.  Email me today and let’s get started.  Don’t let this one get away C Nelson Mfg., Co can make your dream

come true.
