About George Dunlap

1973 my parents opened their ice cream store called Peppermint Patti's in Defiance, OH. We served soft ice cream/custard and hand scooped ice cream. During my years at Bowling Green State University (1973-1977) I worked in the store and traveled NW Ohio selling frozen ice cream novelties to grocery stores. After I graduated from BGSU in 1977, I traveled the Midwest USA selling Ice Cream machines, designing and bulding ice cream stores.

Brothers create (n)ice cream for pope’s meal

The Franklin Fountain owners used a 1940 mold of St. Charles Borromeo Seminary.

POPE FRANCIS may be one of the holiest men on the planet, but when he tastes the new flavor of ice cream that the dapper brothers over at the Franklin Fountain were asked to create for his meal at St. Charles Borromeo Seminary this weekend, he’ll sure feel sinful.

Brothers Ryan and Eric Berley, who have owned the ever-popular Old City ice-cream-and-soda shop on Market Street near Letitia for 11 years, concocted their new flavor, “caramelized banana,” specifically to meet the sweet tastes of this sweet pope.

Celebrating the Flavors of Eataly With Ice Cream (Not Gelato)

Celebrating the Flavors of Eataly With #IceCream  (Not #Gelato)

Five years ago, Eataly opened its doors on Fifth Avenue and 23rd Street, and ushered in the era of the high-end, themed, culinary mega-store. Since then, massive shrines to all things Italian have popped up around the globe, in places like Chicago, Dubai and, as of late last month, Seoul.

To properly celebrate its anniversary, Eataly’s New York-based executive chef, Fitz Tallon, called in help from unlikely quarters: the Lower East Side. He tapped Nicholas Morgenstern, whose cult ice cream parlor dishes out scoops of Willy Wonka-esque flavors

New Yorkers are waiting hours for this freaky new ice cream | New York Post

New Yorkers are waiting hours for this freaky new ice creamBy Haley GoldbergAugust 28, 2015 | 6:00amS’mores Galore is mixed with graham crackers and chocolate and topped with Teddy Grahams, a blowtorched marshmallow and more.Photo: Kristy LeibowitzIt’s only 6 p.m. on a Wednesday, but 10Below ice cream shop in Chinatown has already sold out of its most popular flavor — I Love You a Latte, which blends Stumptown cold-brew coffee with chocolate chips. And yet Edis Kandic, 24, of Astoria, still has to wait 30 minutes for an Oreo-packed Cookie Monster in a paper cup.“Last Thursday I tried to get it, but I waited 30 or 40 minutes without the line moving!” says Kandic, who had first seen the ice cream on his Instagram feed.Ever since it opened in July, tucked between Chinese restaurants and spas at 10 Mott St., foodies from far and wide have been waiting up to three hours to get a taste of 10Below, which serves an American twist on Thai ice cream rolls. The frozen concoction is created by pouring liquid homemade ice cream onto a cold plate reaching temps well below zero. Employees mix in toppings, flatten it out like a crepe, and then scrape it into ice-cold rolls with a putty-knife-like tool. The result is five cute little rolls with toppings ranging from fresh strawberries to a blowtorched marshmallow and Teddy Grahams. (The store offers eight different flavor combinations, each $7 including tax.)
